CDC Report: COVID-19 Cases and Hospitalizations Among Medicare Beneficiaries With and Without Disabilities
COVID-19–associated hospitalization rates among disability-eligible Medicare beneficiaries were approximately 50% higher than rates among age-eligible beneficiaries, and hospitalization rates increased by age in both groups. To read the full CDC report, click here.

Asian & Pacific Islander American Health Forum
APIAHF and the COVID-19 Community Corps have created a factsheet with important information regarding COVID-19 booster shots, now that individuals 12 and older are eligible. A new study published in MMWR found that people who have had COVID-19 might experience continued poor physical and mental health and need additional support and tailored rehabilitation services. NCLD Report: School, District, and State-Level Policy Recommendations
The National Center for Learning Disabilities (NCLD) and Understood commissioned the CERES Institute for Children & Youth at Boston University Wheelock College of Education & Human Development to examine general educators’ experiences during the COVID-19 pandemic, with a specific focus on their experiences teaching students with learning and attention issues. The survey pointed to a need for supports and resources to address educator burnout, student disengagement, and unfinished learning. To read the full report, click here.
Preventing Chronic Disease Report: Underlying Medical Conditions and Severe Illness Among 540,667 Adults Hospitalized with COVID-19, March 2020-March 2021
A new study published online in Preventing Chronic Disease found that certain underlying conditions and the number of conditions were associated with severe COVID-19 illness. Hypertension and disorders of lipid metabolism were the most frequent, whereas obesity, diabetes with complications, and anxiety disorders were the strongest risk factors for severe COVID-19 illness. Urban Indian Health Institute (UIHI) is one of 12 Tribal Epidemiology Centers in the country. UIHU is committed to obtaining and sharing accurate information about the COVID-19 vaccines and has produced resources meant to be used and shared by American Indian and Alaska Native relatives, tribes, and healthcare facilities serving Indian Country. COVID-19 Vaccine Education & Equity Project
Open dialogue, engagement, and effective communication are important to address the skepticism around vaccines that exists among many people and communities.
